NEW YORK - Details are still being worked out with the City of New York for an Apple float to make a grand appearance in the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's rumored that Steve Jobs would be featured riding atop the float, in addition to reports of controversy surrounding plans for an inflatable iPhone to follow closely behind.
Event officials are concerned that the huge blow-up iPhone will overshadow Snoopy, Barney and Scooby Doo which have been popular staples of the parade in past years. "The larger than life iPhone in the parade will only remind kids that the other blow-up characters are useless, outdated icons, which is actually the truth by comparison. But we need the sponsor money." said Tony Garners, Assistant Events Director. "Kids are smart, they know what's cool. They get it!"
The fact that millions of people have shown their love for the iPhone may turn out to be a huge deal breaker for event officials and ultimately cause plans for an Apple float to be postponed altogether. Garners pitched the idea of having a group of Apple Geniuses saunter at the rear of the float with each one carrying a large iPhone in their arms, creating a more reasonable visual impact. That idea was immediately killed.
