AUSTRALIA - Cult of iPhone faithful in Australia finally have a more reasonable option when it comes to an iPhone plan where data is the priority, making iPhone 3G more fun than floating air biscuits into an open flame on wasted Wednesdays. All thanks to Virgin Mobile who has reset the bar by offering a wildly generous 5GB data rate plan in Australia, besting other lame 1GB per month data offerings.
Apple's iPhone 3G has gone on sale at Virgin stores throughout Australia selling the 8GB iPhone 3G for $0 upfront on a $70 monthly plan, which includes $520 worth of calls and 1GB of data. An extra $30 per month allows customers to upgrade with an extra 4GB of data along with opting in for the 16GB iPhone 3G for $0 up front. A move destined to make the competition for iPhone domination in Australia turn green with envy. All iPhone plans with Virgin are for 24 months.
"We heard pretty loud and clear from customers that they want data. One gigabyte per month is fair but it's not generous. We want customers who scoff at one gigabyte to have the option to get more.", said Virgin Mobile Australia chief executive Peter Bithos in a report by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Here's the thing, no matter what country you tip back beers in it's all about the friggin data plan people. Earth to Telstra... Virgin rocks! Now pass me that lighter.
