A gaggle of iPhone 3G docks were allegedly spotted on the rack at Best Buy for $49.99 in what appears to be an oversight on the part of the retailer, knowing that the same iPhone 3G dock is listed online at Applestore.com for only $29.99. Ouch! Best Buy was recently cleared by Apple to sell iPhone 3G, making it the first independent U.S. reseller to offer the revolutionary handset outside of Apple and AT&T stores.
We checked the 3G dock price at bestbuy.com and it was also listed for $49.99. Not worth a $20 up charge because you bought it at some big-box retailer. The Apple universal dock by contrast does so much more than the standard 3G dock by adding TV connection, a wireless remote and the ability to dock 14 different Apple iPod devices. The universal dock is listed by Best Buy on par with Apple at $49.99, worth the premium for the extra features.
Best Buy desperately needs a price adjustment on their iPhone 3G docks. Consider yourself warned.
