The rumors about iPhone 2.2 firmware update being released by November 21 were spot on. The new firmware is now ready for download. The various reports did not factor in iTunes 8.0.2 being released on the evening of November 20. Apple did not waste a minute making the new update available for cult of iPhone faithful.
The new firmware update is 246.4 MB in size. More info to follow when I get a chance to tool around the updated iPhone features. Go grab it pronto.
This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
- Enhancements to Maps
- Google Street View
- public transit and walking directions
- display address of dropped pins
- share location via email
- Enhancements to Mail
- resolved isolated issues with schedule fetching of email
- improved formatting of wide HTML email
- Improved stability and performance of Safari
- Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
- Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
- Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
- Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen
- Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings
