I took the new iPhone app Geo-Twitter for a little test drive while wolfing down a late lunch at Oddfellows Cafe, one of my favorite free Wi-Fi feeding holes in Seattle. This app is a simple tool used for adding map links to your Tweets, bringing new meaning to "someone is now following you". Now you can finally challenge loyal followers, stalkers and fanbaoys to find you like you're some kind of ultra-hipster Waldo. I could easily see internet micro-celebrity "iJustine", jumping all over this one.
Be aware that this free application is a Twitter companion for adding "where you are " to your essential Tweets (sample). Geo-Twitter is ideal for suggesting favorite hot spots to your fan base or quickly inviting followers to an epic tweet-up. It's not an all inclusive Twitter application because there's no way to follow people or to ping and reply to users. But you can post Tweets until your fingers go numb. The ability to attach photos to locations with Quick Tweet can be ideal when trying to entice friends to join you for a drunken Friday night hell ride.
I would expect Schmap's Geo-Twitter app to gain popularity as users suggest greater functionality for future updates. Like many social networking apps, this one will require a village to latch on before it can find it's way into the Top 50. I suggest giving Geo-Twitter a proper test drive. After all, the ride is free!
