A series of leaked photos claiming to be the casing for the next generation iPhone hit the interwebs last week via the iPod Observer. A close-up shot (below fold) shows the back of a 16GB iPhone, with a new model number A1303. Some are wildly speculating the return of the metal casing, but I'm not convinced that these images offer enough clues revealing metal.
The black matte finish in favor of the glossy slip-n-slide plastic on the current 3G model is a nice idea. Though I'm certain no surface will ever truly be scratch proof. That's why we have cases. Some analysts are expecting Apple to bump up to a 32GB model in multi-colors, while others expect Apple to address iPhone's limitations in processing,
memory management and graphic capabilities in order to strengthen their hold on gaming.
It was the iPod Observer who originally posted a leaked image of Apple's iPhone 3G back on April 3, 2008. Giving us all a sneak peek more than three months before the black redesigned iPhone launched on July 11th. While it is definitely possible these photos are not fakes, it's simply too early to tell.
I put together my own iPhone case evolution to easily compare the aesthetics of the three models (hi-res). Wildly popular speculation points to this summer for a new iPhone launch. Are these leaked photos really the next-gen iPhone case redesign for 2009? Is Apple planning to bring back heavy metal? I'm more preoccupied with what's contained on the inside.
