Released in tandem with Zack Snyder's highly anticipated screen adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel, Warner Brothers launched the first massively multiplayer online game (MMO) "Watchmen: Justice Is Coming" for iPhone and iPod touch.
This online only game, released on March 6th, has already been bogged down by frequent crashes and difficulty connecting to the server according to hundreds of iTunes reviewers. I downloaded "Justice Is Coming" myself on Friday afternoon and found the same frustration of staying connected using a robust Wi-Fi connection on my iPhone. While this application is only $.99, it fails to perform as promised making my first impression unforgettable in the worst way. One iTunes App Store reviewer had this to say;
"While the game looks good, if you are lucky enough to get logged on you frequently get kicked off. The app crashes often, and every time I have tried to fight." The reviewer said, rating the game "A frustrating experience" with only one star.
One thing I immediately discovered was the fact that the game's support website offers little support of any kind. The website proves to be 'more flash than function', providing no path for contacting the game's developers in order to resolve constant crashes that act as a major buzzkiller to this monumental effort. A release as powerfully ambitious as this one requires much closer, hands-on contact with the fanatical community of loyal iGamers.
"Doesn't connect to servers, drops connection, no way to turn down music. Fix it and maybe it will be good. Graphics are good but without gameplay it's useless." Another one star reviewer said.
It was this insightful review that summed up my own incredibly frustrating experience with Watchmen: Justice Is Coming. "It has a ton of potential to be awesome but this was released before it was ready." Exactly!

I like it.

This is really disappointing specially to avid fans of Watchmen. We'll still wait until the apps are ready.
