CUPERTINO: There's really no better way to say farewell than doing it with classic Happy Mac jewelry. That's exactly what Apple may have done for ex-board member and Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, according to a wild rumor coming out of Apple's Cupertino campus. It was announced early on Monday that Dr. Eric Schmidt, chief executive officer of Google, resigned from Apple’s Board of Directors.
“Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his
valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple
successful,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
One staffer who claims to have witnessed the tender goodbye moment between Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Google's Eric Schmidt, initially described the long silence and staring contest between the two men as deeply moving, but incredibly awkward.
"Mister Jobs handed Dr. Schmidt a small black box that had these Mac cufflinks inside," Apple staffer Sumg Sing Wong said, "Eric opened it and read what looked like a small note on the inside lid. After a really long awkward silence, both men just stared at each other acting like they might start crying. Then mister Schmidt spoke out in a low voice and said; 'You too, old pal. You too.', he turned and walked away without blinking."
Some speculated that the note may not have contained a pleasant goodbye wish after all, but quite possibly a two word expletive expressing the exact opposite. Other reports indicate that marketing guru Guy Kawasaki, has already contacted Jobs about the vacant board member seat. Both stories still remain unconfirmed.
The cheap, tacky looking Mac Daddy cufflinks have since shown up listed for sale on Etsy.com. Maybe Schmidt is a PC after all.
