If you're a mobile business geek toting around an iPhone 3GS, the next few paragraphs might just cause tingling in your nerdy parts. Cardreader ($7.99), converts your iPhone into a portable business card scanner by using the on-board camera to snap a photo. Then the OCR software converts that data directly into your address book. The app also stores the original business card photo in your contacts, making it possible to easily browse visually through your address book using the apps built in 3D card view feature. Are tingling yet?
The trick to this app is ensuring that you capture a sharp, well-lit picture of a high contrast business card. A concept that will make some cards a tad tricky to photograph in those poorly lit bars you like to frequent. The auto focus feature on iPhone 3GS also plays a key role in this app's functionality, which instantly aces out older model iPhones.
The fact that Cardreader uses automatic field detection in order to capture essential card data like name, company, phone and address is extremely impressive. The app also boasts a built-in dictionary supporting recognition of 15 languages, although Vulcan is not included in that list. If you think the price of this app is a bit steep, you should know that $7.99 is a sale price expected to last for a limited time only.
You should also know that Cardreader doesn’t guarantee the scanned data will always be correct, encouraging iPhone users to validate the contact details. I hate to be Buzz Killington... but that part totally blows!

This is an excellent idea and definately one for those involved in consultative selling opportunities.
