Once the shock and awe of gazing upon the inner sanctum of Apple's latest retail achievement on New York's upper West Side simmered down to a small roar on Thursday, the company huddled the press together inside its glass temple of worship to unveil some mind blowing statistics..
Apple's SVP of retail Ron Johnson, revealed that 10,000 people applied for employment at the new store location, 9,800 of those who applied were rejected by the company. Apple also confirmed that they've processed over 100,000 total applications for employment submitted at retail stores worldwide.
Johnson went on to disclose some impressive sales figures including $6.6 billion in retail store sales for this year and store traffic amounting to 170 million visitors worldwide. Not exactly proof of a recession in progress.
Apple also announced that it earns some $26 million in sales per store. A number that amounts to roughly $4,300 per square foot of retail space. If you haven't bought Apple stock yet, you might consider jumping in before the start of the holiday shopping season.
The new Apple Store at Broadway and 67th street will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday with 2,500 commemorative t-shirts being handed out to Macheads in attendance. Doors open at 10:00 AM.
