Verizon first picked an on-air fight with AT&T by asserting that 3G coverage for the number two wireless carrier really blows. It all started with coverage maps, but has quickly degenerated to a "Headless" Luke Wilson horribly victimized by slow Verizon 3G download speeds in AT&T's new TV advert.
Although this wild pitch aimed at one-upping Verizon's iPhone Misfit Toys ad is only mildly effective at winning the epic ad war, I think it's hysterical. Turning Luke Wilson into a wobbling, headless buffoon is ingenious. Especially since he's AT&T's annoying talking head. That's just not right.
Shouldn't AT&T have had the Verizon spokes-tard with the horn rimmed glasses running around without a head? Truth in advertising here is priceless. I'm all for hacking off Luke Wilson's head!
