In a stealthy behind the scenes move, Apple has quietly doubled iPhone 3G over-the-air download limits from the meager 10MB to 20MB, which includes all apps, music, podcasts and more. Until recently, any content over 10MB required a Wi-Fi connection for download.
The 10MB limit has been an annoying hindrance when trying to fetch certain apps or larger app updates on-the-go. I welcome the freedom that's been long over due for iPhone users.
The move appears to be aimed at the launch of iPad, giving users anywhere access for downloading larger chunks of content. I'm certain that a download cap of 20MB will prove to be less of a buzz killer for iPad early adopters and bring on a rousing cheer from app developers.
Apple has offered no official statement or insight on the subject.
