STYLE GUIDE: The new hotness in iPhone sportswear is being produced by a small team of designers out of Portland, Oregon. These highly customizable, laser engraved bamboo iPhone cases are the first release from Grove, creating a shotgun marriage between cutting edge laser technology and furniture level craftsmanship.
While a plain bamboo case runs $89, it's the laser engraved Artist Series that are flying off the shelves according to partner Joe Mansfield, who manhandles the precision engraving process.
"We believe really strongly in the craft and the attention to detail we give to our cases," Mansfield told the iPhone Savior, "We're involved in every step of creating this case. We're not outsourcing. We hand sand and apply a hand-rubbed oil finish to each one."
The Grove gang have launched a wild idea that raises the bar for protective iPhone fashion, by designing beautiful handcrafted art that should have mass appeal among the modern bohemians. I was smitten by the style of the hand painted Sumi case that reveals the bamboo underneath in the laser cut design.
Grove offers several unique styles of iPhone protection, with plain bamboo iPhone cases in three finishes along with their signature engraved artist series. Any of the Grove made cases can be custom-engraved with your own art for an additional fee.
Expect to pay $89 for a blank bamboo case, natural or medium tone. The Artist Series cases sell for $99 along with custom cases for $99 with a $10 proof charge.
The obsessive attention to detail put into these two-piece, 100-percent solid bamboo beauties should cause iPhone users proper tingling in their geeky parts.
"I asked my lady, what should I do to make her happy and make love true? She said, The only thing that I want from you is a little piece of the big bamboo." - Big Bamboo song
