One of the hottest potatoes in the galaxy has landed in the form of this Star Trek themed Mr. Potato Head set featuring Captain James T. Kirk and Klingon Kor. The tender homage to Star Trek characters is exactly what the makers at PPW Toys wanted to accomplish.
“One thing we aim for in our design is to represent Mr. Potato Head emulating or paying homage to these Star Trek characters,” Dean Gorby, PPW Toys’ business manager told Star Trek.com.
“These are actual Mr. Potato Head toys,” said Gorby. “So the components can be mixed up in any combination. But we wanted to ensure that the figures could be enjoyed and displayed even if they were never played with. So the level of detail and the quality of these figures is really impressive."
This iconic set priced at $30 dollars, was made slightly smaller than the ‘standard’ Mr. Potato Head toys according to Gorby, so they can be displayed more easily by those who never intend to actually play with them. Even the retail packaging is well thought out for serious collectors. You can expect subsequent sets of Trekkie spuds to include Mr. Spock and Lt. Uhura along with familiar TOS equipment and cool Enterprise components.
I strongly suggest pairing these intergalactic spud heads with the Star Trek Original Series Communicator iPhone app ($.99) which you can use to add the authentic voices of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and other trek favorites to any epic potato geek role playing session.
For those who choose to speak Kilgon, you'll want to download the pricey Star Trek: Conversational Klingon ($3.99) app featuring Michael Dorn. A perfect app for giving voice to your little potato Kor.
