Last year was all about protecting your iPhone with big bulky hard cases that made your handset look like it was suffocating while trapped inside of a plastic spacesuit. Bulky cases are over! They're done!
This year is all about less is more and showing off your iPhone's sleek physique. You'll be seeing hordes of new iPhone 4S users rocking ultra-slim cases adorned with original graphic designs from an endless stream of hipster artists.
The newest line of "Design Series," PC polycarbonate cases from UNIEA, are a great addition to the rapidly growing trend of minimalist iGear.
I had a chance to preview both the Frenchie and Rebelution cases ($30) from UNIEA and instantly took a liking to their slim profile, snug fit and trendy art. The use of a hard shell, high gloss coating makes this style of case nice to hold and easy to pull in and out of pockets. A dimpled texture along the side serves as a funtional grip and the cutout base also allowed for a clean fit into my charging dock.
One minor drawback in this case design is the opening for iPhone's rear camera. While there is ample clearance for snapshots, the smaller cutout caused a clouding effect on my photos when using the LED flash. Although I could care less, that might be a deal breaker for some who frequently shoot flash photography.
If you're one of those people who's constantly dropping your iPhone all over the place, you just need to stop it already. Dropping your glass-backed iPhone is so over. It's time to shed that bulky case as your daily driver and get a firm grip on what matters most.
Like it or not... ultra-thin is in.
