If you haven't noticed yet — Google is celebrating the 46th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series today with an interactive "Star Trek" Doodle that boldly goes where no doodle has gone before — complete with those iconic haircuts we all know and love.
You can join in on the intergalactic party by snagging the official Star Trek Communicator App for just $.99 which pays a meaningful tribute to the classic Star Trek legacy.
The recent update includes an all-new interface with menus designed to feel like a true extension of the Star Trek series along with several $.99 Sound Packs including Season 1, 2 and 3. The ability to assign sounds to the Communicator's front panel was also a much needed addition.
While some of the most memorable sounds are already included on the app — buying the Tribbles sound effects and additional transporter tones was highly logical in my opinion. Unfortunately you cannot use the classic SFX as ringtones, but you can make calls and access your iPhone contacts from inside the app.
