NEW YORK - CNN is reporting that hordes of shoppers at the
Toys 'R' Us flagship store in Manhattan were going loony over
Microsoft's Zune on Friday morning. It appears that one "Zune doom and
gloomer" from within the crowd created a panic for shoppers quite early
on.
"It was only half an hour into Black Friday, and a customer at the Toys 'R' Us flagship store in Manhattan's Times Square was already yelling, 'The Zunes are done!' For the Zune customers further back in line, the gates should have read, "All hope abandon, ye who enter here." Source: CNN
Zunes are done? Abandon hope? What does it all mean? It sounds so fatalistic and condemning. Could it have been a rabid cult of iPhone follower yelling from the crowd? "How could there be a Zune shortage?" asked Waverly Caldwell who was present to purchase her two children the popular iPod Nano. "People only want a Zune when it goes on sale. It sounds like a planned shortage to me. No one panicked." said Caldwell. The 30-gigabyte Zune hard drive Brown model was selling at Toys 'R' Us for 60 percent off at $79.99.
The
Zune panic starter was never identified, quickly disappearing into the
large Toys 'R' Us crowd, though some shoppers later in the day reported
hearing a man shouting anti Zune rhetoric in the center of Times
Square. Some said they heard "Resist the Borg!" being yelled out from
very close by. One man claims he heard "Resist the whores!" as a slam
on the big chain retailers in Time Square. Others thought they heard
"You missed your chores!" but quickly admitted having no clue why
someone would want to yell that out in the middle of the city. We were
not able to confirm any of those reports.

I bought one. Now I feel like I sold my soul once I recovered from my 5:00 am hype stupor. I read the brown Zune is not the one. Ouch! Ebay?
