According to some keen side-by-side photo detective work done by Gizmodo it appears that Epcot's Spaceship Earth ride has reopened featuring Woz (Steve Wozniak) rather than Steve Jobs as originally posted in a rumor that surfaced last week via the Distant Creations website. Gizmodo is claiming "that rumor has been smashed and that Epcot loves Woz". (link)
The rumor quickly spread via The Disney Blog, then onto Boing Boing, over to Gizmodo and the rest was history. "What does sitting on the Board of Directors for the Walt Disney Company get you these days? How about a figure of yourself in a famous Disney attraction?" A reference to Steve Jobs from The Disney Blog.
It tuns out that it may be Woz after all who is firmly seated in the computer tinkerers chair at Epcot Center depicting a recreated California garage workshop scene circa 1975, complete with a Fleetwood Mac poster that can be seen to the top left of the work bench. The recreated scene also features several pizza boxes stacked on a cooler, a shelf with a stack of 8-track tapes and a reel-to-reel player set in the corner of the work bench amongst a plethora of technology from the era in iPod white. The entire garage scene is made to appear like a heaping mess unfit for anything but rats to live in. I guess that makes the legend of Apple loom even larger (photo). That's "The Magic of Disney" for you.

A claim that a recreated scene of "Goldmember" flaunting a Limited Edition 'Goods' branded 'gold' Zune (Zhoon) is scheduled to appear at Epcot Center in Spring of 2008 is reported to be completely false and the source of that claim is currently being investigated.
