With the size of iPhone 3G changing only slightly in proportion and curvature from the original, the commonly accepted drawback of "iPhone bulge" remains a challenge for most of us accustomed to shoving our hunk of innovation into our front pockets. Anyone who chooses an iPhone case, sleeve or pocket pouch for protection, no matter how thin, will notice that iPhone bulge only becomes more obvious. Some actually believe that's a good thing. Is that an iPhone in your pocket?
Unless your a card carrying metro-sexual, like Robert Downey Jr. who endorses the dreaded "man-purse", there are very few options left to avoid iPhone bulge. Since the launch of iPhone, Apple has redefined the meaning of tech sexy. A group of young designers working in SoHo are convinced that iPhone bulge is one of the hottest geek chic fashion accessories this year, calling "the bulge" iPhone's most popular feature. I think not.
I find myself constantly hand cradling my iPhone to avoid iPhone bulge and classic "pant slouching" which I consider a worse fate since it creates the risk of exposing my FUPA (Fat Upper Pubic Area) from the weight drag of my iPhone. Back pockets are a favorite placement option that gives the appearance of massive ass junk which also knocks it off my list of man-fashion choices.
LifeClever recommends using the standard issue coin pocket on jeans saying; "I’ve tested jeans from Gap, G-Star, Levi’s, and H&M. All fit the 3G iPhone perfectly, though some pockets were deeper than others."
Coin pockets are a fine idea if you're comfortable barebacking with your iPhone, leaving it open to scratches. I'm not. Besides, the coin pocket on my Lucky Jeans can barely fit an iPod Shuffle inside of it.
So the big question is... are you all about the bulge?
