A juicy rumor has surfaced via the Orbitcast website with claims that a "covert operative" working on the Alpha developer team has leaked screen shots of a new Sirius XM iPhone app. The iPhone app is allegedly being developed by GeeksToolBox as part of the StreamSmart project which allows streaming of Sirius, XM and Internet Radio to multiple platforms on various devices. StreamSmart acts as the backend, each platform would have its own client to serve up the Sirius and XM streams.
Orbitcast asserts that GeeksToolBox is partnering with NiceMac because the iPhone app is called StarPlayr. According to the StarPlayr website; "An iPhone version of StarPlayr is in the works and it will indeed be called StarPlayr, powered by StreamSmart."
"The best thing: no iPhone hacking required. Two files were sent out, and the testers just need to drag them onto iTunes to install. I'm assuming it will be making its feature debut on the App Store." Source - Orbitcast
The report reveals that iPhone battery life is performing very well because the audio is in a native format for the iPhone. "Other" players require audio to be converted on the iPhone, which supposedly eats into the battery life. The post also indicates that sound quality is very good.
Ars Technica reported on June 10th that XM was readying an iPhone client for XM Radio Mobile, so it's no surprise that active rumors are starting to bubble under on this extremely hot iPhone app launching soon.
