A Barron's report this morning included, "Shipments Have Begun On New MacBooks" in the headline. Anyone with half a Mac knows that a headline like that is sufficient enough to start MacBook mania and speculation around our Apple planet.
A report by Citigroup’s Richard Gardner cites, “Field checks have confirmed that shipments of new MacBooks have begun; he says the most distinctive features of the new MacBooks are “very thin aluminum casing, an LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level price point.” Source: Barron's
Rumors point to new MacBooks taking several design cues from Apple's ultra thin MacBook Air. Several tech sites are reporting that Apple will launch their refreshed MacBooks on October 14th including more aggressive pricing starting as low as $999. Is that really enough to command attention? It's not for me.
Disappointment may be in store for serious cult of Mac heads who continue to dream out loud for the fabled MacBook touch tablet to make an appearance on earth from another Apple galaxy. Several well thought out concept designs have helped to only inflame the lustful desires of Mac faithful, creating the potential for Apple's new MacBooks to pale by comparison after fantasies have been elevated to expect something more exciting. Creating a form of undiagnosed seasonal MacBook depression that seems to take hold every year around this same time. The rich black aluminum MacBook Pro redesign (above) and MacBook touch tablet (below) are only two examples of perfectly delicious concepts aimed at inspiring drool from seasoned Applefiles.
Will Apple's new MacBooks deliver surprise and delight or the MacBook blues? It's due time for Apple to completely re-imagine their notebook designs, pushing way beyond simply thin and light wrapped in another clam shell style, aluminum casing with rounded edges. Yawn! That's so 2008. It's already been done. What else you got?
