At first I was skeptical over contact with a sketchy
source claiming to have a video of T-Mobile's highly anticipated G1,
Google Android phone in action. The spy video turned out to be
authentic along with a few not-so-spy shots included. I was told by the
source known only as Jack L, that another video exists but it
definitely was not included in our drop. [photos after the jump]
The G1 phone in this short clip looks amazing in function with many features yet to be uncovered from the looks of it. Functionality appears zippy going from menus to apps. An amazing "Bar Code" reading app is shown bringing up reviews, price checks and online sources after a product bar code is captured with the phone. It included the ability to set up a price alert email.
The Google Maps app with street view made me want it for iPhone right now. The Android Market Place clicks moved a bit fast to really get a good feel but it looked thick with apps from what could be seen. The stills (below) show plenty of apps including YouTube and an app called Cocktail which must mean it's Happy Hour time.
G1 officially launches to a select group of pre-order customers on October 22nd. T-Mobile posted this statement on their G1 website. "If you ordered before October 3, 2008 it will be delivered right to your door as early as October 22, 2008" T-Mobile also indicated that customers who order the G1 before October 21, 2008, will have their new baby delivered as early as November 10, 2008.
I won't be giving up the sleek design and hotness of my iPhone anytime soon, but I could easily see some folks jumping into the G1 Android phone head first. I friggin loved the Star Wars Lego characters in the side-by-side photo holding up iPhone. I had to laugh at the shot of the G1 with Steve Jobs pondering it right next door. Nice one!
