In a time when the mind's of Americans are turned towards the financial stability of our nation, Walmart may be planning to offer hope and comfort by selling Apple's wildly popular iPhone 3G starting on November 15th. This bold move comes on the heals of Best Buy who started selling iPhone 3G back in September causing an initial sigh of relief for some struggling Americans, but the move has proven to be not quite enough.
"I'm a single mother of three battling every month to make ends meet," said Vernita Hagstrom, "Knowing I can walk into Walmart on a Sunday night and impulse buy an iPhone gives me hope. It's better than Zoloft for my depression, because it will make me feel like I'm better than all those other broke-ass gypsies in my apartment complex using pay-as-you-go phones."
Fortunately for many Americans like Vernita Hagstrom, the possibility of Walmart selling iPhone 3G sends a strong message to our middle class that everything is going to be ok. Wall Street won't have the same positive effect on main street that Walmart can have by adding the beloved Jesus Phone to shelves just in time for holiday shoppers.
iPhone has become an American symbol of innovation, independence and superiority in our culture, making it much more than simply an amazing device because it empowers our self esteem. It won't be long before Walmart's slogan, "Save Money. Live Better" is transformed to read "Buy iPhone. Live Bigger", because bigger is living better. The cult of iPhone may be coming soon to a neighborhood Walmart near you soon. Let's hope so.
