CROWLEY, LA - Less than 72 hours after news reached the interwebs on Wednesday confirming that iPhone 3G is coming to Wal-Mart on December 28th, the first cult of iPhone fanatic showed up at a Louisiana Wal-Mart location ready to begin his committed line sitting ritual.
A report featured on The Boy Genius Report included an "internal Wal-Mart correspondence" detailing the company's plans for launching iPhone 3G. "We are pleased to announce that Wal-Mart has reached agreement with Apple to offer iPhone 3G in Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart-managed Sam’s Club* Connection Centers nationwide beginning December 28, 2008." Louisiana resident Heath Writs, seized the opportunity to become the very first Wal-Mart customer in the great state of Louisiana to purchase an iPhone 3G. Bragging rights shared by no other Wal-Mart customer on planet earth. "If I know anything, I know Wal-Mart," said Writs "They're gonna roll-back them prices real good on iPhone 3G and I'm gonna be the first one to snatch it up cheap. I'm expecting to be on the six o'clock news making history and everything. Hells yes!" Unconfirmed rumors have hinted at a possible price drop to $99 for the 8GB iPhone model.
Armed with a Flip video camera and a large pack of batteries, Writs intends to document key moments of his personal iPhone quest hoping the content can be used to land a book or movie deal. He named his documentary "The Heath Writs Project" aimed at spoofing the wildly popular 1999 film "The Blair Witch Project". If all else fails, Writs plans on editing his video into a YouTube mini-series.
Writs was resourceful enough to drag along his own bucket that he'll fashion into a make-shift porta-potty for after store hours and didn't flinch when I questioned him about spending the holidays in a Wal-Mart parking lot. "If I'm willing to drop turds in a bucket for six weeks do you really think I give rip about where I eat turkey? I'll be some pretty good promotion for Apple and Wal-Mart. Maybe I'll get me a free case outta the deal." said Writs.
That's so worth the wait. The cult of iPhone is alive and well in Louisiana.
