Updated: Apple has released another new iPhone ad continuing its focus on free apps that populated the App store very early on. This time they've targeted "Loopt", the friend stalking app that helps you locate exactly where your iPhone buddies are any time of day or night. You'll have to sign in and invite friends before the real stalking can begin. This app is impressive if you actually have a reasonable group of friends to peep on. Otherwise it's a perfect reminder of how very alone you really are on the satellite map of life. Not that anything is wrong with that. Loopt also links you to friends on multiple carriers including Sprint, Verizon, MetroPCS and Boost network.
[High Quality Version]
Loopt was one of the first iPhone apps to get slammed for viral marketing and privacy issues, in the method it used your contact lists to invite others, despite everyone realizing up front that the app had the potential to be slightly creepy.
Seeing other location based apps, such as twinkle, where people were culled on location alone, rather than mutual approval or nagful spamming, made me realize, jeez, there are a lot of cruising stalkers out there that have no right to realize where I am, permission or no.
