The infamous Dev-Team pineapple gang have released the world's first software unlock of the iPhone 3G with a very public video demo designed to stifle the naysayers. Their software hack is code named "yellowsn0w", demonstrated courtesy of Dev-Team member Musclenerd who's reportedly holed up in Florida for the holidays. The hack is complete and targeted by the Dev-Team to launch to planet earth on New Year's Eve 2008 after being neatly packaged up all user-friendly style.
It's amazing to watch AT&T replaced using a T-Mobile sim card as smoothly as a magicians slight of hand trick. The resident hackmeisters report this unlock will only be available to iPhone 3G owners that have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier (jailbroken). You can tell what version baseband you have by going to iPhone Settings> General> About> Modem Firmware. The unlock requires a 'jailbroken' 3G iPhone. It will be installable via Cydia regardless if you have a Mac or PC.
