A visit to Apple.com today reveals a splash page flaunting "500 Million apps downloaded. And counting." Apple currently boasts an unbelievable 15,000 apps in the App store. The iTunes App Store launched on July 11, 2008 in tandem with iPhone 3G which ushered in a new culture craze for Apple's iPhone faithful. In the first month after the App Store was born 60 million apps were downloaded for the iPhone.
"I've never seen anything like this in my career for software," Steve Jobs told the Wall Street Journal. This thing's going to crest a half a billion, soon," Jobs added. "Who
knows, maybe it will be a $1 billion marketplace at some point in time." Source: WSJ
That forward looking prediction by Jobs was made back on August 11, 2008. Only five months later the words of Apple's resident visionary genius and CEO have come to pass in grand fashion.
Congratulations to all of the developers who helped forge the amazing success of the iTunes App Store. You all made this epic milestone possible. You have all brought us this far. Kudos to Apple.
Get well soon Steve.
