If you're still hunting down a way to get free Emoji icons on your iPhone or iPod touch and you're too cheap to drop $.99, your search is finally over. A free app called "Spell Number" has embedded Emoji inside their number writing utility. The app was designed for people who need to spell out long numbers without using any brain mass. Adding the emoji icons to your device is really simple.
To enable Spell Number Emoji, follow these steps:
(1) Be Sure You're on iPhone firmware 3.0, 3.1 or 3.1.2
(2) Download Spell Number from App Store [link]
(3) Launch app and enter this newest code 91929394.59 and close the app
(4) Open Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards >Emoji > See √ Mark
(5) Select the Globe when entering text with any app to add Emoji
UPDATE: Unfortunately only version 1.03 currently unleashes emoji. The latest update version 1.04 has the emoji easter egg removed.
NOTE: These Emoji icons can only be viewed by other iPhone users.
Much love to Antonio for the Tip.

if you all are wondering... here is some answer I know...
from ver 2.2 onwards, Apple install emoji folder in the system so any phone above 2.2 can view them if they receive from other iphone. however, it's only readable and writable function is set only for Japan. If you buy your 'i' in other country, a code is remove so that you cant on it from International keyboard setting. But still if you have 2.2 above, you can view. basically, Spell Number creator found out this and they put at password which when you type-in will automatically add a coding to the preference.plist file and grant you the ability to use emoji. By doing that Spell Number creator broke the Apple rule and was requested to reverse his doing. That's why when you update your spell number ver, you lost the stuff. In anyway, if you manage to get a hand on SN 1.03, and after enable emoji... just uninstall SN. Emoji wont go away as the code is already written, unless you update SN which has a code that undoes its previous doing.
Well, finally... if you have a jailbreak phone, you can easily edit preference.plist file and there you get your free Emoji, like me... :D
huh? ask me how?
you got your god 'Google' :P
Hey, not that i'm stingy... i dunno how to explain step by step like others. so you should seek a tutorial forum from the professionals yourself... safer, trust me... ;)

I have done the downloading etc & use Emojis fine - only I have a problem..
Every time I carry out a search (on the iPhone search address bar) say for an application - I type letters …. especially when I use ’s’ I think it happens on other letters - the iphone starts to break up/fade and do a restart….. why is that…?
Is this some bug on using the ‘Spell Number’ App…
This re-boot by itself, has never happened since I have had the iPhone, only after I have downloaded the App ‘Spell Number’ does it do this for anyone else… am I the only one…???
This problem happens daily, only when I try to type into the search field bar…?
Once I begin to type “spell…” I get to ’s’ and it kind of fades and re-boots…
Can you advise/assist help me on this - anyone going through similar problem…?

I have a 3GS running iPhone OS 3.2.1
I previously had Spell Number v. 1.3 installed.
I had to uninstall Spell Number v. 1.3 and re-download Spell Number v. 1.4 for this to work. Follow the same instructions given above using Spell Number v. 1.4 on your iPhone 3G running 3.x

i just did it and googled to see what other people said and this works.
i have 2gen ipod touch non-jailbroken with 3.0 firmware and version 1.03 (latest) of spell number and i put in the code and it works/
Posted by: sumvietdood | July 21, 2009 at 06:11 AM
It works on iPod touch 3rd generation 3.0 firmware too but I don't recomend getting the 3.0 firmware because it messes up your wifi and you get lots of problems with wifi but a really cool feature of the 3.0 firmware it's the you can copy and paste it so cool

yea you can delete the Spell Number app. (Why didn't you just try deleting it and see what happens, doesn't cost anything to do it again) (,")
Works great on new iPhone 3GS thanks

1) How does the person above have OS 3.0
2) It worked for me and I have the latest iPhone update.
3) Who put the easter egg in spell number, did they hack the emoji app to do this?
4) Are there any other easter eggs in spell number.
Thanks,
MF
