The "Mac geek" army have begun to rally their voting power around Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who's set to make his reality television debut on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars", beginning Monday, March 9th. The cult of Woz have already hoisted up both a Facebook page and VoteWoz.com blog offering updates and voting information to fanatic followers. Wozniak personally called for Macheads to watch the show and vote, in a short video clip that's been making the rounds online. (video after jump)
"I hope everywhere in the little computer world that people use Macintosh' for creative work, for video work, for photography, that they're all rootin' for me, that they're gonna watch. I hope they're gonna vote too... and uh... it means a lot." Wozniak said in a video clip wearing his pink satin shirt.
The 58-year old Wozniak, reportedly turned down an invitation to appear on "Dancing With The Stars" last season, finally relenting this year after being pressured by friends. Woz told Reuters that he's counting on his cult-like following in the tech world to be his "secret weapon" in gaining the popular vote.
"If enough hackers care for me ... maybe I'll win the popular vote," Wozniak said. "I don't have any ideas that I can be a professional dancer." Wozniak told Reuters in a special report.
Even D-list celebrity Kathy Griffin, pledged weekly support for her billionaire ex-boyfriend when he waltzes onto ABC's prime-time TV dance floor this season. Griffin broke up with Wozniak last April after being lovers for a brief but forgettable moment in time.
"I will be watching, and will be riveted," the stand-up comedian told Usmagazine.com in Beverly Hills Tuesday. "If I am in town, I will definitely go support him." Griffin said.
It will be interesting to see how many Macheads are committed enough to endure a weekly diet of "Dancing With The Woz" just to participate in "Woz Mania" that may soon be sweeping the nation. There must be a better way for Wozniak fanboys to express their undying adoration. For the love of Woz, please tell me there is!
