LOS ANGELES - If you remember Lauren, she's the supposed regular girl in Microsoft's new "Laptop Hunters" ad where she's paid cash and then picks herself out an HP Pavilion laptop for under $1,000 dollars. Of course Lauren has a negative experience visiting the Apple store in the advert finding only one Mac laptop in her price range. It's scandalous!
It turns out that the lovely miss Lauren DeLong is actually an LA-based, SAG-eligible actress. Not that anything is wrong with that! But I feel duped! I thought Lauren was just some regular girl, randomly selected by the Microsofties.
"I'm just not cool enough to be a Mac person," Lauren said in a sarcastic tone while driving in the Microsoft ad. Maybe that's because she's only acting like a regular person who's 'not cool enough' to be a Mac person. You see, that's what actors do, they play pretend for money. Not that anything is wrong with that! Don't believe the hype people... it's all pretend! I can sleep sound again knowing the truth.
CONGRATS LAUREN! Best of luck on your next audition for a national computer brand ad. [video after jump]

Lauren never entered the Apple Store. Watch 0:13 - 0:15 again. Did that guy wearing black look familiar?

Yes, except I never thought that those people in the "real people" ad were actually real. I knew that all of them, including the children, were actors. Just like the Best Buy ads were "real" employees with fun stories about customers. If one actually took the time or energy to look into it, you'd probably find that those people are actors, too. And the fun, endearing little stories they have? Probably written by LA-Based, WGA-eligible, commercial writers.

the only people who bitch about Macs are people who have never used them or people who cant afford them. Macs are great for basically anything except playing games since most games aren't compatible.
PCs are garbage and rarely last longer than a few years, especially the way they are being cheaply produced now days. Just my opinion

Actress or not, the information is accurate. There is one Apple laptop for under $1K and it has a 13" screen. At $300 less, that HP was a lot more machine for the money. That's just the reality. If you're on a tight budget, Apple just isn't the way to go.
If you're the type that has more money than you know what to do with and want that Apple logo proudly displayed while you drink your white chocolate mocha at Starbucks, then you'll pay a little more. :)

I feel so duped. Mickey and Minnie too? What can you believe in these day?

Thanks for the brilliant no kidding!!!
There alwayas seems to be one jack-hole that wants to kill the buzz!! Quick note to you "professor"...not everyone is as brilliant as you. They actually believe the reality crap that they see. Just about every new cable show is touted as reality and is not. but the reason that they have a reasonable amount of success is because brain donors think that they are real. They think survivor is real, making the band, wwf ....you get the idea. So why don't you go stand in front of disneyland and tell people that mickeys a fake and storm the malls at christmas time and jam Santa and his elves up. Get off the decaf and get a freakin life. For those that know what is BS ....just allow ignorance to remain bliss.

I love it how she picks up that portable laptop and says 'it's just like a phone!' Hehehe, maybe in PC land it is....

According to the actor's unions, NO one may have a speaking role in a commercial, show, or other public medium without signing up as a member in good standing of the appropriate actor's union. That is whether they are a career actor or just some schmuck off the street appearing in a commercial.

The critical link you left out in your synopsis Katie is that Microsoft had released a series of "I'm A PC" ads featuring supposed real PC users from all walks of life. Most recently they used a little Asian girl downloading photos.
This "Laptop Hunters" ad extends that series focusing on one of those "real PC users" or so it seemed. Are you saying everyone of those dozens of other "real users" were actors too?
It's a sketchy slight-of-hand trick that was outed for better or worse. Everyone knows John Hodgman and Justin Long are caricatures. That's obvious! Lauren, not so much.

She hot, yo. She can make any Apple bashing commercial and I will still watch.
Posted by: Steve Unemployed | March 30, 2009 at 07:41 PM
You know what else? John Hodgman and Justin Long are actors too! They're not REALLY computers! Amazing, huh? All those people in, oh, I don't know, EVERY ad ever made are actors too. Don't play it off like it's some kind of grand deception by Microsoft. Grow Up.
Now, if you told me that this actress actually owned a Mac, then it would be funny, but to "reveal" that the girl in the ad is an actress is just stupid.

No kidding.
