On the heels of the unfortunate delays surrounding NiceMac's uSirius StarPlayr app, news has surfaced that an official Sirius XM iPhone app is in beta according to Orbitcast. It's rumored that the new iPhone app will be launched for free, designed to stream the regular Sirius or XM internet content to both iPhone and iPod touch users according to sources reporting to Orbitcast.
"Sources close to Sirius XM Radio Inc. say that the company has been in development of an official iPhone App, and the app is currently in beta, Orbitcast has learned."
iPhone streaming would be available to any Sirius or XM subscriber paying for internet service. Some have speculated that NiceMac, LLC may have already struck a deal with the satellite company since we reported last week that their uSirius app was bogged down with approval issues from Apple.
I spoke to one of the principal members from the NiceMac team who confirmed that no deal has been struck with Sirius XM thus far concerning their uSirius app. This recent revelation by Orbitcast may point to the real reason their 3rd party app failed being approved.
Last Friday Sirius XM Radio Inc. delivered an email containing a teaser message that read; "Something big is coming..." pointing to this week for the mystery of "3 deals - 3 ways to listen" to be revealed. It's likely that the company will make an announcement centered around their debut iPhone app release soon if one truly exists. Other sources have verified the app will be launched 'very shortly.' Screenshots of an official Sirius XM app were suspiciously MIA at the time of this post.
