I was anxious to get my hands on iSperm, an iPhone game that centers around racing animated semen up through a treacherous fallopian tube with the goal of being the first sperm making it into the moon-like ovary. I'm sure that developers Mobigem laughed out loud hysterically when this app was first conceived. The ideas must have been amazing on paper. The final product... not so much.
It felt a tad awkward in (Phase #1) putting my sperm racer in motion by rapidly jerking my iPhone back and forth in order to gain enough speed to surpass the gang of popular sperm who love hanging out together. I got the joke! It's a brilliant idea until you're trying to play iSperm sitting at Starbucks.
I will offer this app high praise for creativity, but after a few rounds of continuous play I realized that iSperm is more about novelty shock value than it is an enduring game of skill. Developers learned quickly that iPhone fanatics have been very generous rewarding dumb ideas with millions of downloads. That was so last week!
With many quality games now competing for $.99, it's gonna take far more than the word sperm in your title to keep iGamers interested. Your game has to be worthy of multiple plays with levels of challenge that take skill to overcome while being equally fun to discuss with other players in community. Real stickiness in iPhone game play is essential once the buzz wears off.
iSperm is mentally stimulating for about two minutes and then the fun just goes limp right there in your hands. If you want to blow your wad on a one giggle novelty app, iSperm might just be what you're looking for. Otherwise, I suggest latching onto iShoot Lite. It's free!
