The next-gen iPhone is expected to include a 3.2-megapixel camera on board, according to a Taiwanese rumor site DigiTimes. Sources claim that OmniVision has received orders from Apple for 3.2-megapixel CMOS sensors specifically aimed for inclusion in the new iPhone line anticipated to be announced in early June.
Apple released the original iPhone and iPhone 3G with a 2-megapixel camera lacking any support for video recording. The 3.2-megapixel upgrade is rumored in part to support video which was evidenced in the first beta release of iPhone Software 3.0 which included a screen labeled "Publish Video," uncovered in a MobileMe control panel. It's presumed that video could be captured and published to MobileMe websites direct from iPhone. Video recording would be a stellar addition to the next-generation iPhone.
The report also goes on to add more delicious goodness, announcing that OmniVision has secured a deal to produce 5-megapixel CIS orders for another Apple product. Though it's still unclear what product the sensors are intended for, it's possible that the technology could be targeted for use in a fabled Apple Netbook or the infamous iTablet. Both devices have been scripted into fantastical rumors circulating inside Mac forums for years.
Just a shinny penny to tempt people in to buying somthing they already have :P
