Screenshots revealing a video camera interface in iPhone 3.0 beta were uncovered by doing a simple modification to the configuration files according to reports. The files had to be modified, tricking the firmware into detecting a video camera present. The still dormant video recording screenshots reveal the ability to switch from video cam mode back to camera with a flick.
Buried inside the the configuration files where the screenshots were discovered, also revealed hints of an auto-focus camera, digital compass also used in turn-by-turn GPS navigation, and a Voice Control field on-board. The screenshots also hint at the ability to attach video files into MMS messages for sharing content at will. The addition of an on-board editing feature set presents a clear picture of a superior iPhone video offering.
Apple is clearly holding back some powerful new features that will distinguish the next generation iPhone from it's 3G predecessor. Which confirms the belief that buying into iPhone 3G now at any price will leave a lot to be desired. It's easy to speculate that video recording along with a few other epic features relying on faster processing speeds could reduce iPhone 3G to a base model phone for Apple. Enticing new users with premium features contained only in the new hotness. That's only a guess.
This would be enough to get me to upgrade my hardware. It looks really slick, too. I also love that they show it being sent over MMS. haha I can't wait til June!
