Paramount Digital Entertainment has just released a free movie promo app called "Star Trek Phaser". This disappointing app is equal parts shameless marketing and lame Phaser shooter game aimed at obsessed Trekkies. Place your Phaser on Kill or Stun then fire at the unidentified moving target traveling from left to right. If you're not bored to death inside of the first :30 seconds you may already be a confirmed Trek head. Don't be stunned... it gets worse!
This app comes fully loaded with a small grouping of ho hum movie trailers available anywhere online along with a gallery of recycled photos showing most of the U.S.S. Enterprise' crew looking as confused as I was playing this poor excuse for an iPhone game. Two Player Wi-Fi mode offers no improvement on the experience, it just sucked twice as hard. I'm convinced that any blog giving this one a favorable review is probably being paid to post.
Paramount had plenty of time to release a killer Star Trek offering for iPhone that didn't require an apology included in the "about" page. They could have contracted iShoot gaming master Ethan Nicholas, to develop an epic concept that would've brought the challenge of this Trekker game beyond a third grade level.
I'm temped to set my Star Trek Phaser to kill and then aim it at my head to end the misery. Don't let the bogus 5 star ratings fool you. This app is a real misfire that boldly goes where no shameless movie promo app has gone before. Kill it before it starts breeding.

Worse even! Paramount forced all developers of other Star Trek apps to remove their apps from the iTunes store to promote this ridiculous Phaser app.
