Apple has upped the anti on their MobileMe service by providing iPhone users direct iDisk access with their new free app release MobileMe iDisk. The app will allow iPhone users to view and share iDisk content on the go, making files accessible from anywhere. iDisk will store up to 100 MB of recently viewed files, but audio and video files are streamed rather than stored locally.
Apple's official list of features include:
- View files on your iDisk
- Access Public folders
- Easily share files from your iPhone
- Quickly access recently viewed files
- View iPhone-supported file types-including:
- iWork, Office, PDF, QuickTime and more.
- (Files larger than 20MB may not be viewable.)
When launching the app, go to Settings and you'll find a tab for iDisk Help that I found really useful. Of course you must be signed up for a MobileMe subscription for this app to matter much. Apple is offering a 60 trial of the service to let noobs get their feet wet. That offer falls under my own personal policy, "if it's free it's for me!" I would expect even greater functionality to appear in this app with future updates.
Finally! There's an App for That.
