Palm announced the arrival of Palm webOS 1.1 to wild cheers by all twelve Pre users on their official blog Thursday. In addition to delivering new tasty treats for failed business wannabes, the company pompously posted news that the update also re-enables Pre media sync allowing seamless access to iTunes (8.2.1). Palm could not resist viciously taunting Steve Jobs by including his trademark phrase "Oh, and one more thing" in their post.
"Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync," the post reads. "That’s right -- you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1)." Source: Palm Blog
It was just last week that Apple released iTunes version (8.2.1) deliberately aimed at boning Premies who quickly realized the update had broken their ability to sync music with the software. Most wept openly before resigning to the horrific news since the idea of not updating to (8.2.1) never occurred to them.
It's obvious that a fresh game of grand douchery is well under way between Palm and Apple. The recent stealthy strike by Apple seemed to have little effect on the Premies, taking most of the tech world by surprise, putting the current score at Palm (2) Apple (1). I would suggest that Jobs should not underestimate Palm's masterful douchiness. All eyes remain on Apple's CEO to strike back fast and hard.

Maybe I'll be the minority opinion on this site, but is Apple really so smart to block Pre users from syncing?
To me, it reads like Apple saying "We don't want to compete on phone features -- and build an iPhone so compelling you'll just forget about Palm. No, we want to get our customers to download a new OS version, which unbeknownst to them will disable their syncing ability with the Pre."
Is there anyone else here who'd be pissed off at Apple for deliberately reducing the functionality of their Mac, in the name of selling a different product?

Jobs doesn't have to act quickly. In fact, he doesn't have to act at all. By acting the first time, Jobs has shown the average Pre user that counting on iTunes comparability is not a given. Tech geeks will happily wait for the next Palm update or use some other workaround to sync their media, but the average user just wants their smartphone to work. A little uncertainty goes a LONG way.
