A French teenager was caught off guard when the screen on his girlfriend's iPhone suddenly shattered in his face according to reports. A small piece of glass from the device is said to have struck the 18-year-old boy in the eye. The boy's mother, Marie-Dominique Kolega, has already made threats to file a complaint against Apple over the alleged mishap.
"My son was frightened but he did not lose an eye," Kolega, of Aix-en-Provence in southern France, told the AFP.
Kolega indicated that the phone started making an unusual hissing noise and then the screen suddenly broke, sending shards of flying iGlass into the air. The report appears to be the first complaint of this kind involving an iPhone.
Apple has not been so fortunate when it comes to their wildly popular iPods, which are being blamed for "15 burn and fire-related incidents" according to iPod owners. The information is referenced in some 800 page iPod-related documents from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in California.
This is exactly why some people can't have nice things. Next time, put that iPhone down when you're Mom tells you to kid, or else you'll shoot your eye out!

Um...sounds like the lithium batteries are venting, which would overpressure the case, and POP!

I have seen everything inside an iPhone. There is NOTHING that can explode. (Unless you put it into a microwave, dunk it in water, or otherwise abuse it.) They broke it, and didn't want to tell mom the truth; now when the truth comes out, the 'news agencies' will retract nothing, just move on the to the next spectacular headline that delves little into any actual reporting. Freedom of the press means NOTHING if all the investigative journalists are dead. News agencies are just pandering to the government relying on leaks, and doing nothing to validate the claims made.
Have a great day everyone. 8)
