The long wait is almost over! Apple has announced its Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard will go on sale Friday, August 28 at all Apple retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. Snow Leopard will be available as an epic upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard users for $29. The installation requires 5GB of disc space if you want to be in on what's new.
If you purchased a qualifying Mac on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, it will cost you only $9.95 for the pretty kitty upgrade. Apple's online store is now accepting pre-orders if you choose to not start your Labor Day Weekend standing in line at an Apple store to snag a free Mac OS X Leopard tee shirt along with your upgrade.
"Snow Leopard builds on our most successful operating system ever and we're happy to get it to users earlier than expected," said Bertrand Serlet, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering. "For just $29, Leopard users get a smooth upgrade to the world's most advanced operating system and the only system with built in Exchange support."
