Speaking in a brief conversation with Multichannel News, an "industry executive familiar with Netflix's plans", is making big claims that the company will soon extend Watch Instantly video-streaming to both the iPhone and Nintendo Wii. Creating wild anticipation for users anxious to enjoy mostly outdated content streamed directly to their epic devices. If it's new, it's not for you!
AppleInsider acted quickly to put the entire Netflix video-streaming rumor into perspective with their own thoughtful report on the subject.
"Unlike Netflix' DVDs-by-mail service, its Watch Instantly library offers much less variety, with limited popular content such as recent movies and TV series. Its older titles and oddball independent films are available for immediate viewing however." - AppleInsider
Though Netflix declined to comment on the rumor, it's expected that iPhone streaming would be painfully restricted to Wi-Fi only connections as witnessed by the infamous SlingPlayer app disappointment, gimped earlier this year by the masterminds at AT&T.
"Several iPhone apps already let Netflix customers manage their queues and search for movies. The Netflix streaming-video app would let users watch the actual content on an iPhone or iPod touch." - MultiChannel News
Which translated means, nothing new to see here folks. Expect more actual let downs to come from the Netflix “TV Everywhere” strategy and our friends at AT&T. Because you should never underestimate the power of stupidity in large groups.
