AT&T has announced September 25th as the official date for launching their "late summer" Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) for iPhone. The company is currently battling at least two lawsuits that claim both Apple and AT&T misled customers by heavily marketing iPhone MMS then failing to deliver.
"We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS Multimedia Messaging Service when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day." AT&T
Although AT&T's MMS announcement will be embraced by many iPhone faithful as better late than never, it's hurry up and wait for many users already aware of the dropped calls, spotty service, delayed text and voice messages that often underscore the iPhone experience via the epic AT&T network. The New York Times is calling the data guzzling iPhone "The Hummer of cellphones", when the real smoking gun is AT&T's lame service.
So how well can iPhone fanatics expect MMS to really work? Especially when 3GS owners start pushing video clips over the network once they get bored with sending photos. I'll let you know the answer to that question on September 26th.
