If you're someone who's all about the girth in your choice of smartphones, then cast a wildly cynical gaze upon the first pictures of Microsoft's Pink phone, revealed in what may have been a planned leak to the ninja tech masters at Gizmodo. For those living outside the loop, project Pink is the code name for Microsoft's long rumored Frankenphone for a mostly extinct Zune generation.
These two hillbilly twins caught bumping fuglies with the Palm Pre, are appropriately called Pure and Turtle. Names that when combined could offer a hint at expected operating speeds. Gizmodo calls these swollen plastic disasters; "Microsoft's new phone for regular people." If by regular people they mean desperate Microtards and brain eating Zune zombies, then I totally agree.
"These phones are going to be made by Sharp, who'll get to share branding with Microsoft," Pretty Boy writes for Gizmodo, "Sharp produced the Sidekick hardware for Danger, who was bought by Microsoft two years ago."
It was Jim Goldman from CNBC that raised fresh hopes for a Microsoft Zune phone back in November of 2008. Goldman said that the mystery device was codenamed "Pink". Goldman cited Microsoft's purchase of Danger Inc., the makers of the Sidekick Flip phone as the catalyst for the renewed chatter of a smart phone coming out of the Microsofties campus.
It appears Goldman's Micro-fantasies are beginning to prove accurate, though stealthy Microsoft sources are not yet revealing any connection to their Zune product line. It's no secret either that the Micro nerds have been working like drunken elves on their own App Store clone which I would expect to be unveiled close to the Pure Turtle launch.
At first glance, the Turtle (pictured at top) reminds me of a Fischer Price version of the Palm Pre waiting for some toddler to use it as a chew toy. It looks like a hockey puck and a pet rock had a dwarf baby then dressed it up in ugly BlackBerry pants. The Pure, which continues with the ultra-rounded design and bulky slider keyboard should be used as a poster child to detour future generations from creating pure generic looking product designs. See this kids? Now do the opposite!
I'm totally confused about what all this fresh stink surrounding Microsoft's Pink is really all about? It's like passing the scene of a huge car crash with the police officer saying , move along folks... nothing to see here. My thoughts exactly. Welcome to the new social disorder.

:)
So having wads of cash and market dominance in some areas don't guarantee design and business acumen... Glad that's settled.
Since Apple looked at it from both sides, it's probably hard to come up with a very good mobile smartphone without it looking very much like the Iphone.
