AMSTERDAM - The life and art of epic Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh
(1853-1890) will soon be featured by the first museum on the European Continent to develop an iPhone application. The
application "Yours, Vincent" was designed to accompany the exhibition Van Gogh’s
letters: The artist speaks, at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Van Gogh takes users of the app on a tour through his life and his art based on a collection of his personal letters. Many of the letters were written to Vincent's brother Theo, who was one of Van Gogh's greatest sources of support.
"The facilities offered by iPhone, such as audio, video and zooming in on paintings and letters, will be exploited. That way an iPhone allows the user to get closer to the works of art than would ever be possible in a museum." Source- Van Gogh Museum
Yours, Vincent The Letters of Vincent van Gogh will be launched as a free app for iPhone and iPod touch users, becoming available for download after October 6, 2009 through the iTunes App Store. It will be offered both in English and in Dutch.
The Van Gogh Museum’s Rietveld building will be dedicated to unveiling the letters of Vincent van Gogh from October 9, 2009 through January 3, 2010. The exhibition will include Van Gogh's letters: The artist speaks, exhibiting some 120 original letters alongside the works that Van Gogh was writing about.
Yours, Vincent is only the second iPhone application created for art education by Antenna Audio. The company's first application, Love Art ($2.99), was developed in collaboration with the National Gallery in London and has been downloaded over 250,000 times.
