Oceanhouse Media has set out to single-handedly save Christmas for kids by announcing that the Dr. Seuss classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas ($3.99) is now available as an e-book app for iPhone and iPod touch fanatics.
This Grinch-tastic debut delivers Dr. Seuss in a fresh new way for those little gadget geeks wearing tiny pajamas with feet. The app is loaded with professional narration so kids can choose the "Read to Me" option with the words in the story highlighted as they read, or choose to swipe through each page for an electronic reading thrill ride.
I liked the idea of words zooming up and spoken when the pictures are touched, creating an intelligent picture/word association that turns the beloved Grinch tale into an interactive adventure. Oceanhouse Media has set the bar for kids to experience e-book reading in a way that engages and promotes learning through touch for of all ages.
Mister Grinch may be doing all he can to rob Whoville of their Christmas, but the timeless magic of Dr. Seuss has managed to reach the App Store just in time to make the holidays complete here on planet earth. It's the kind of news that instantly filled me with large shiny bubbles of happy gas. But that's just me kids. Now the Christmas season can officially begin!
