Apple Buys iSlate.com, Domain Hunters Swoop In

MacRumors has uncovered evidence which reveals Apple is the registered owner of the "iSlate" domain name. Although it seems Apple may have taken ownership of the domain around 2007, MacRumors' founder Arnold Kim asserts that iSlate seems likely as Apple's choice of names for their rumored tablet.

"Apple is rumored to be announcing an Apple tablet in early 2010 and given this evidence "iSlate" seems a likely candidate for the device's name." Arnold Kim writes for his MacRumors website.

The iPhone Savior news team has learned that Mr. Kim, who also pens the wildly popular blogs TouchArcade and AppShopper is so convinced by his iSlate discovery, that he immediately purchased the domain name iSlateRumors.com on December 25th under his Normalkid LLC moniker.

There's no telling how many speculative tablet domain names Kim may be nesting on since he's also listed as the registrant for TabletRumors.com, iSlateArcade.com and SlateArcade.com.

Apple Books Yerba Buena Center for January 26th

Apple has reportedly booked out the stage at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for "several days" in late January. It's widely anticipated that Apple will use the familiar venue for a "major product announcement" on Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

This news from Financial Times, comes on the heels of the Silicon Alley Insider reporting on Wednesday that select developers have been tagged to prepare apps for "full screen resolution."

"Apple has been telling some app makers to prepare apps for a demo next month, according to this source. "They've told select developers that as long as they build their apps to support full screen resolution -- rather than a fixed 320x480 -- their apps should run just fine," our source says." WSJ Puts Apple Tablet Launch at End of March

In an extended post that focuses on Apple's plans to offer all-you-can-eat "television subscriptions over the Internet", the Wall Street Journal tossed out a matter-of-fact statement that points to a late March launch date for Apple's rumored Tablet device. The date comes from "people briefed by Apple."

"Apple is revamping iTunes as it finalizes its plans for a tablet device, which is meant to be a multimedia gadget, according to people briefed about the product." Sam Schechner and Yukari Iwatani Kane wrote.

"The multimedia tablet is expected to be larger than an iPhone but smaller than a laptop computer. People briefed by Apple say the company is aiming to launch it by the end of March." Source: WSJ

As more media outlets hint at the knowledge of Apple's tablet, the only thing missing now is a firm confirmation from Steve Jobs himself on the 2010 launch date. AppleInsider has reported in several posts that a first quarter launch for Apple's multimedia tablet is expected.

"I'm On A Phone" Video Wins $5,000 from Smule

A dynamic duo from NYC calling themselves "The Misunderstoods" have walked away with the First Place prize of $5,000 dollars in Smule's "On A Boat" video contest featuring their "I Am T-Pain" auto-tune application created for iPhone (iTunes link).

The Misunderstood's parody video entitled "I'm On A Phone", is definitely NSFW but still it qualifies as a cussing masterpiece of iPhone brilliance. The lyrics border on street-poet genius.

In addition to the cash, the duo have been awarded the highly coveted "Big Ass Chain" that will immediately elevate them to epic status in New York.

My iPhone Case Has A Friggin Kickstand!

STYLE GUIDE: When I first looked at the BackFlip soft case with its kickstand feature, I was highly skeptical it was something I really needed. Just a few hours after fitting this smooth little magical sheath over my handheld marvel, I was hooked. It has quickly become a major part of my must-have arsenal of iPhone accessories.

The kickstand feature is easy to access and much sturdier than I anticipated. I've found it most useful while logging in hours at the coffee shop listening to music while posting epic works of genius. After using the BackFlip for almost two weeks now, the only complaint I have is that it's not real easy to slip on and off. For a rubbery soft case it fits snug like a wet suit.

To admit that I have experienced true geekish man-love for my BackFlip case would be too embarrassing. So for now I'll just tell everyone who asks that we're only friends. Expect to pay $30 for your own stylish BackFlip. That feeling of childlike wonder is certain to follow after delivery.

iFart Launches iPhone Social Farting Network

I guess it had to happen eventually. Joel Comm has now added an epic new feature to his iFart Mobile ($.99) app that allows users to send farts directly to other iPhones. The iFart sound will be activated on a recipients phone regardless of what they're doing with the phone at the time. It's the debut of the world's first "Social Farting Network". That's genius!

The "Fart Budz" feature comes with iFart update 2.3 and requires a quick registration using the proprietary GameDock system from inside the iFart app. After signing up, iPhone users can then “friend” other members to opt-in for pranking each other using the revolutionary Fart Buddies system. Imagine the possibilities when combined with the app's Record-A-Fart feature.

When a fart arrives, using Apple's push messaging service, it can be heard by users even during an active phone call. Apple Rumored to Host WWDC 2010 on June 28th

It's not unusual for Apple to schedule their annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) under a generic "Corporate Event" moniker, which is exactly what shows up on the Moscone Center's summer schedule from June 28 to July 2, 2010. Either side of that mystery week lists specific company names or events.

Speculation is already swirling that Apple has coordinated their WWDC to coincide with the 3-year anniversary of iPhone's nationwide launch on June 29, 2007. The end of AT&T's exclusivity deal is also in play with Apple's event being scheduled later in the month.

The WWDC in previous years had been scheduled on June 8-12 (2009), June 9-13 (2008) and June 11-15 (2007) roughly two weeks earlier in the month. The possibility of Apple announcing a Verizon iPhone deal along with a new iPhone form factor remain high on the wild rumors list. I would hope that a mythical Apple tablet device would be announced long before the end of June.
