Starting Monday, AT&T will offer iPhone hostages the option to sign up for unlimited voice and data for a flat $99.99 a month. The new offer represents a $30 decrease in plan rates which up until now the company has managed to suck out of iPhone users for frequent dropped calls and spotty 3G service.
Finally, iPhone users will start paying less to get less service thanks to Verizon announcing its own reduced rates, which forced AT&T to respond quickly or risk looking like even more masterful ass clowns. Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets made a statement that amounted to the equivalent of blah, blah, blah.
The best news is that existing AT&T customers can choose to switch to any of the new plans without penalty or suffering from an unbearable contract extension. AT&T suggests users visit their online account management tool at att.com/wireless to affect the change starting on January 18th or show up at one of AT&T's 2,200 company-owned retail stores to order.
For those customers held captive by a Family Talk plan, which includes at least two smartphones, you'll get unlimited voice and data for $179.99. Unlimited texts will remain an extra $20 for individuals and $30 for Family Talk plans.
At least eight to ten iPhone users poured out into the streets of several major U.S. cities to celebrate AT&T's big announcement on Friday. But with rush hour already in full swing their exuberant celebration dances were mostly ignored. We managed to capture a few of the revelers here in Seattle before our camera man was slapped super hard by an angry Yeti that didn't want to be photographed. It got real ugly after that.
