It appears that Apple has performed a long overdue Spring cleaning in the App Store, targeting a large number of apps containing overtly sexual content. App Store pages in the categories of Entertainment, Lifestyle and Photography that were once overrun with apps pimping Japanese Boobs, A Sexy Nurse and Bold Babes are now stripped bare. Literally overnight, an untold number of apps featuring highly charged sexual content have just vanished.
Tech Crunch received a tip on Thursday from Jon Atherton, the developer who created the wildly popular "Wobble iBoobs", citing that his app was removed from the App Store. Atherton shared the contents of the email he received from Apple.
The App Store continues to evolve, and as such, we are constantly refining our guidelines. Your application, Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored), contains content that we had originally believed to be suitable for distribution. However, we have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content, and have changed our guidelines appropriately.
We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you believe you can make the necessary changes so that Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored) complies with our recent changes, we encourage you to do so and resubmit for review.
Sincerely,
iPhone App Review
Atherton's iPhone app lets users apply "jiggly points" to any photo, then simply shake the iPhone and watch your selections wobble like two midgets wrestling underneath a sweater. Wobble iBoobs is only the first app deletion that's been reported, I would expect to hear a resounding backlash from a greater number of developers affected by Apple's abrupt App Store clean up.
The culturally sensitive Burqa Babes app, aimed at returning modesty to iPhone users, may not have been imagined a day too soon by these new standards. Many developers who've been populating the App Store with trashy iSmut should start making their way over to the Cydia App Store. It's painfully obvious that they've worn out their welcome with Apple. Expect more to follow on this developing story.
