Television icon Charlie Rose, recently hosted an iPad review round table featuring WSJ Tech columnist Walt Mossberg, Michael Arrington from TechCrunch and media columnist David Carr from the New York Times. It was clear that Rose is holding some pent-up man-lust for the iPad. I thought the discussion was intelligent, balanced and enlightening.
"It's a pretty sexy application for books and it's gonna be hard to resist," David Carr said. "I think there's a whole lot of companies who gotta be looking at this and saying, Is this a bridge to the future or a gallows for us? Which is it?" - David Carr - The New York Times
The banter became a tad awkward when the Super Friends focused on the iPad's lack of Flash and multitasking capabilities. Mossberg made an attempt to explain away the lack of these features, but then turned the attention back to the end user saying;
"Consumers don't care about formats, they just want to see the video."
My favorite moment came when David Carr spoke candidly about Amazon's Kindle compared to Apple's iPad; "It looked like something the Mennonites made 150 years ago." David Carr said.
Wow! That's gonna leave a mark.
