Once Homer Simpson gave curling his enthusiastic endorsement in a Simpson's episode earlier this year, it was certain that the mind-numbing Winter Olympic sport was about to rocket into mainstream pop culture.
iCurling ($.99) has burst onto the scene just in time to grab the attention of iPhone gamers as the first true blockbuster of the summer. I was skeptical when first downloading this game of champions, but I quickly latched onto the thrill-ride of curling like I've been training for this nerd sport my entire life.
The object of the game is to slide as many stones (rocks) as you can closest to the target (or house) as possible. At the same time, keeping your opponent from doing the same. Use your fingers to toss the stones and also as the brush to keep your throw on course as it glides across the ice.
Developers of this heart-pumping joyride have included an essential two-player mode that pairs two devices with connection via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. There's even a series of music tracks and authentic grunts during the competition, all added to keep the game play wildly stimulating.
Even though the resolution on iCurling is acceptable for iPad, I'm convinced that an iPad optimized version of this game is a virtual goldmine waiting to happen.
iCurling is the best game that's come to iPhone since Hippo High Dive. Trust me on this one, you won't be disappointed for your one dollar investment. iCurling is the closest thing to actually being out on the ice, except a whole lot warmer.
Thanks. I just bought it and tried it. Very cool. Curling is about the only sport I watch anymore.
