STYLE GUIDE: With designer jeans costing victims of popular fashion upwards of $200 a pair, the thought of "iPhone fade" is not exactly a welcomed outcome for many that choose to cradle Apple's mobile juggernaut inside their front pockets.
Although mobile technology is rapidly evolving, it seems that denim makers have done little to address what's quickly becoming a reality for iPhone users who must endure unsightly wear on the front side of their expensive designer jeans. A subject that most iPhone owners are reluctant to openly talk about in fear of appearing shallow and narcissistic.
Longtime iPhone fanatic Elam Nikserof, insists that denim makers should already be designing specially reinforced pockets to support extended iPhone storage. An idea that rings especially true when it comes to the tight fitting, high-end denim lines produced by several manufacturers.
"I'm not willing to pay huge money for jeans that leave iPhone rub marks like I'm advertising 'Insert iPhone here'," said Elam Nikserof. "How is that cool or fashionable? It looks freakish and makes me feel totally self conscious in public."
Nikserof is convinced that the garment industry as a whole are choosing to ignore the fact that some 10.7 million iPhone devices are being utilized worldwide. Since Apple's wildly popular smartphone was launched in 2007, Nikserof asserts that no meaningful design updates have been created by denim makers in order to keep pace with the habits of popular culture dragging around mobile technology as a constant.
"Designer jeans are all about being fashionable," said Italian fashion expert Alto Dittoi, "They're not meant to hold up if you're wearing the same pair constantly. Especially with an iPhone shoved inside the pockets 24/7. Should we start making special Blackberry pants too?"
The obvious quick-fix for iPhone owners, is to not force their devices into snug fitting front pockets in order to avoid the potential wear that may come from constant rubbing in the same spot over time.
"It's only common sense that responsibility for wear should be placed solely on iPhone owners." Alto Dittoi said. "What if dildos became popular to carry around? Should we have to design special pockets for that?"
"That's an absolutely absurd idea. You can't make calls using a dildo" said Nikserof. "Why buy over priced status symbols in the first place if you can't shove stuff in the pockets without fear of leaving some fossil-like iPhone impression behind?"
While iPhone pocket bulge has long been accepted as a popular part of ownership, unsightly iPhone fade may be the inevitable downside. Is it time for all denim makers to replace their coin pockets with specially designed iPhone pockets as a new industry standard? That would appear to be the case, since iPhone has taken over as a "true religion" for millions of faithful followers who've flocked to Apple's smartphone worldwide.
It's almost certain that the popularity of iPad may not be far behind, based on 2 million units sold in under 60 days according to Apple. Designers can thank Jobs that there's been no real demand for a big ass pocket for carrying Apple's new magical handheld device around. At least not yet.
I honestly think I would be a little upset if something ruined my expensive jeans. Especially a phone that is also super expensive.

Well, what are they going to say when consumers start stuffing their pockets with the HTC Evo 4G or HTC HD2 smartphones. Those things are huge.
I don't know why they're singling out iPhone users when there are plenty of other smartphones equal in size to the iPhone.
